Why Health Care?

"We're not getting value for the money we're spending on health care." – Karen Davis, PhD, President, The Commonwealth Fund

In order to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation, we must change the focus of the health care delivery system that is currently fragmented and ineffective to one that emphasizes quality, coordinated care. It's a tall order.

Recognizing that we can't do this alone, the Foundation works in a diversity of settings and partners with a variety of organizations, to ensure that all Coloradans receive quality, coordinated care because those who do are healthier. By concentrating on the following areas we will make quality health care accessible to all regardless of income:

  • Improving integration of care for patients
  • Improving the quality of care that patients receive
  • Realigning incentives and reimbursement to focus on primary care
  • Implementing health information technology which allows for greater care coordination and quality improvement
  • Increasing the number of professionals who provide primary physical, mental and dental health care, particularly for uninsured and low-income individuals

We support projects in the following areas to achieve this goal:

  • Integrated Care
  • Quality of Care
  • Workforce
  • Medical Education
  • Health Information Technology
  • Health Care Policy

In addition, our efforts are focused on primary care and ambulatory settings, as well as providers and clinics that serve the uninsured and those served by public benefit programs such as Medicaid and CHP+.
