The Colorado Health Foundation
Names New Board Members
Rural Health Specialist and Nonprofit Leader Add Expertise to Foundation Board
DENVER – The Colorado Health Foundation is welcoming two
new members to its Board of Directors. Jack Westfall, M.D., director
of Colorado Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), and Sally Schaefer,
president and CEO of Hilltop Community Resources, Inc., were both
appointed to three-year terms. The Foundation is dedicated to making
Colorado the healthiest state in the nation by increasing the number
of Coloradans with health insurance; ensuring they have access
to quality, coordinated care; and encouraging healthy living.
In addition to being director of the Colorado AHEC, Dr. Westfall is founder and
research director of the High Plains Research Network, a practice-based organization
dedicated to improving care in rural communities. Prior to joining AHEC, Dr.
Westfall served as director of Rural Health at the University of Colorado at
Denver and Health Sciences Center. He is affiliated with a number of professional
healthcare organizations, including the Colorado Rural Health Center and National
Rural Health Association. Dr. Westfall graduated from the University of Kansas
School of Medicine and completed his training at Rose Family Medicine Residency
in Denver.
Ms. Schaefer resides in western Colorado where she manages Hilltop Community
Resources, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to providing leadership for community
services that foster self-sufficiency and enrich quality of life. Among her many
accomplishments are the implementation of a retirement and assisted-living project,
the development of a youth corrections program at Hilltop House and a collaboration
with Colorado West Regional Mental Health, Inc. that provided a 16-bed program
for children in mental health crisis. Ms. Schaefer sits on the governor-appointed
State Medical Services Board and was recently a trustee for Fort Lewis College
in Durango. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marquette University
in Milwaukee.
“These individuals bring a wealth of experience in both health care and
community leadership to our Board,” said Foundation president and CEO Anne
Warhover. “Their expertise in evaluating the need for and delivering care
to rural and underserved Coloradans will help advance the Foundation’s
goals,” she added.
