Fighting Obesity through Nutrition, Exercise and Disease Management
We believe that all Coloradans should have access to the components of Healthy Living – nutritious food, physical activity and disease management tools – because these are key to staying healthy.
What We Will Do and How
- Decrease Colorado's obesity rate. We will support programs that address obesity in a variety of ways — safe options for physical activity and increasing availability of fresh fruits and vegetables in underserved communities. We will also support programs that lead to healthier school breakfasts, lunches and vending machine snacks, and expand physical education and nutrition education and after-school programs.
- Increase the number of parents who are educated about child development, nutrition and preventive health care. We will support early childhood programs that teach parents because they hold the key to healthier lives for their children.
- Increase the number of Coloradans who are educated about chronic disease management. Studies have shown that up to 80 percent of Americans' health care expenditures are related to chronic disease. We will support grants to expand evidence-based chronic disease self-management classes in community settings.
